THE HOUSE BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD

The Endicott Farm in Maine was established in the mid 1800s near what is now the intersection of State Routes 8, 11, and 27.  It is 100 acres, more or less, with about a third of that in open fields and the rest in timber.  It is located in the center of the picturesque Town of Belgrade, famed for its 7 interconnected lakes.

William Evert Endicott and wife Rhoda arrived in 1919 to establish their young family and work the land.  Their children Ruth, Ralph, and Mabel, grew up here and attended Belgrade High School.  There were many summer visitors to the area then, as now.  Elizabeth Arden, who established Maine Chance in Rome, stopped by the farm one day in the 1920s to buy a kitten.  All three children served in WWII.  Ruth later attended Colby College and became a physcian, Ralph, a  Navy aviator, and Mabel, a trained nurse.

Ralph retired to the farm in 1979 with two of his sons, Johnny & Ross, who attended Messalonskee High School and swam on the swim team in the 1980s.

Johnny returned to the farm beginning in 2004, with wife Anna and his three children, Sabrina, Ethan, and Austin.
